Job summary

Pertemps Education Network is seeking a Psychology, Autism & Speech and Language Support Assistant for a Lambeth primary school in South London. This role focuses on 1:1 or small-group support in the Autism Base, aiding pupils with ASC and related communication and sensory needs.

Qualifications

• Degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, Speech and Language, Linguistics or related subject (not essential).
• Genuine interest in supporting children with Autism and SEN.
• Previous experience with SEN, Autism, ADHD or communication needs preferred.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
• Interest in long-term career in Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy or SEN education.
• Experience with PECS, Makaton, visual supports or sensory strategies advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils within the Autism Base.
• Support children with Autism and related communication and sensory needs.
• Deliver targeted interventions to develop communication, social interaction and independence.
• Use autism-friendly strategies (visual timetables, PECS, Makaton, sensory resources, social stories).
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers and SEN staff to implement learning plans and EHCP targets.
• Support speech, language and communication development throughout the day.
• Encourage positive social interaction, confidence and independence.
• Monitor pupil progress and give feedback to teachers and SEN team.
• Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
• Uphold safeguarding and inclusion standards.
