Job summary

Remedy Tutoring is seeking an experienced Autism Specialist Tutor to support children and young people with ASD across South London and surrounding areas. You will deliver personalised tuition using visual supports and structured routines, adapting methods for communication differences and sensory needs.

The role involves working with families, schools and carers to ensure continuity and progress, in various settings, including home or school environments.

Qualifications

• Ideally, a minimum of 2 years' teaching or tutoring experience.
• Relevant teaching qualifications such as PGCE or QTS are desirable.
• Proven experience working with autistic children and young people.
• Good understanding of autism, communication differences, sensory needs and predictable routines.
• Experience using visual timetables, visual supports and structured teaching approaches.
• Ability to adapt lessons for students working below age-related expectations or with additional learning needs.
• Experience supporting non-speaking students or those with complex communication needs is highly beneficial.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with patience and empathy.
• Ability to recognise individual needs and adapt expectations without pressure.

Responsibilities

• Deliver personalised one-to-one tuition tailored to each student's learning needs and targets.
• Support students across core subjects such as English, Maths and Science where appropriate.
• Use visual timetables, prompts, structured routines and clear instructions to aid engagement.
• Adapt teaching methods for communication differences and sensory needs.
• Develop positive relationships and a calm, predictable learning environment.
• Identify gaps in learning and deliver lessons at the student's current level.
• Collaborate with parents, schools and professionals to maintain consistency.
• Monitor progress and adjust strategies to support academic and personal development.
