Job summary

Baston House School in Bromley, Kent, is seeking an Autism Practitioner to support students with autism in a safe, structured setting. You will work with teachers and the wider team to deliver tailored interventions, helping students access the curriculum and develop independence.

The role requires GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C) and experience with autism or challenging behaviour, plus strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at minimum Level 4 (Grade C)
  • Experience working with pupils with autism and/or challenging behaviour
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Adaptable, patient, proactive, and committed to helping pupils reach potential

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers and tutors in delivering high-quality, inclusive education for students with autism
  • Assist in implementing school policies, procedures and IEPs
  • Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support to enable students to access the curriculum with increasing independence
  • Promote students' physical, academic, social and moral development
  • Organise and maintain engaging classroom environments, including resources and displays
  • Contribute to preparation and upkeep of student documentation (BSPs, IEPs, Communication Profiles, Risk Assessments)
  • Work with staff to ensure student safety on and off-site according to risk assessments
  • Contribute to the school's development and improvement plans

About the Role

As an Autism Practitioner, you will support students to access and engage with their learning in a safe, structured, and stimulating environment. Working closely with teachers, tutors, and the wider multi-professional team, you will provide tailored support that promotes independence, social development, and emotional wellbeing. You will also assist in planning, delivering, and adapting resources and interventions to meet individual needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support teachers and tutors in delivering high-quality, inclusive education for students with autism
  • Assist in the implementation of school policies, procedures, and individualised education plans
  • Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support to enable students to access the curriculum with increasing independence
  • Promote students physical, academic, social, and moral development
  • Organise and maintain engaging classroom environments, including resources and displays
  • Contribute to the preparation and upkeep of student documentation, such as Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Communication Profiles, Risk Assessments, and Pastoral Support Plans
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure student safety both on and off-site, in line with risk assessments
  • Contribute to the schools ongoing development, improvement plans, and wider initiatives
About You
