Job summary

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an Autism Family Practitioner to join the Autism Information and Advice Service within Children's Disability Services on a temporary 15-month basis. You will provide specialist advice to families, deliver workshops, and signpost to services.

The role involves working directly with parents and carers, offering tailored information and strategies, with flexible/home working arrangements.

Qualifications

  • A Level 6 qualification, or equivalent knowledge gained through experience.
  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families.
  • Experience of supporting autistic children and young people with complex and enduring needs.
  • A strong understanding of sensory processing differences and other autism-related needs.
  • The ability to provide practical, compassionate and evidence-informed advice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT skills and experience of maintaining accurate records.
  • The ability to manage workload effectively and meet performance targets.

Responsibilities

  • Providing specialist autism information, advice and guidance to parents, carers and families.
  • Delivering advice sessions that are strengths-based, person-centred and tailored to individual family needs.
  • Planning, developing and facilitating workshops, training sessions and group activities on autism-related topics.
  • Working collaboratively with internal colleagues and external partner agencies to ensure coordinated support.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service monitoring and evaluation.
  • Keeping up to date with autism research, best practice and local support services.
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of the Autism Information and Advice Service.
