Job summary

Cover People are recruiting a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant for a specialist secondary school in Salford to support pupils with Autism and Complex Needs. The role is full-time and long-term, with potential to go temp-to-perm for the right person.

You will work under teachers and support staff to help pupils access learning, build skills and independence while managing challenging behaviours with patience and consistency.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting Autism, complex needs or challenging behaviour.
• Calm, confident and able to stay patient in demanding situations.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with Autism and complex additional needs.
• Help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
• Build trust and develop positive relationships.
• Encourage communication, confidence and independence.
• Manage challenging situations calmly and consistently.
• Adapt quickly to changing needs and circumstances.
• Support learning individually, in small groups and across the classroom.
• Work closely with teachers and specialist support staff.
