Job summary

INDTEA in Walthamstow, East London, is recruiting an experienced SEN Teacher to work with pupils aged 3-19 in a specialist environment supporting Autism Spectrum Condition, SLD and PMLD. The role is full-time from September, with a daily rate of £200–£280 and a strong emphasis on personalised learning and collaboration with therapists.

You will lead a small specialist class, adapt curriculum to individual EHCP outcomes, and work with teaching assistants to deliver engaging, meaningful progress.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching pupils with SEND, Autism or complex learning needs.
  • Strong understanding of adaptive teaching and highly differentiated curriculum planning.
  • Ability to plan from pupils' starting points rather than age-related expectations.
  • Calm, patient and nurturing approach to supporting complex needs.
  • Strong classroom leadership and ability to guide Teaching Assistants.
  • Confident collaboration with therapists, families and professionals.
  • Genuine commitment to developing communication, independence and life skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver highly differentiated, personalised learning linked to EHCP outcomes.
  • Teach pupils with Autism, SLD, PMLD and complex communication needs.
  • Adapt curriculum content and teaching approaches to individual development levels.
  • Support pupils to develop functional communication using visual resources.
  • Create structured, predictable and nurturing classrooms promoting wellbeing.
  • Deliver learning 1:1, in pairs, small groups and whole-class settings.
  • Use sensory, practical and experiential learning for developmental curricula.
  • Promote independence, social interaction and functional life skills.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants, Speech & Language Therapists and other professionals.
  • Monitor progress through observation and assessment and document small steps.
