Job summary

Guardian Jobs is seeking an experienced SEN Teacher in Walthamstow to support pupils with Autism, SLD and complex needs across ages 3–19. You will lead a specialist class with TAs and therapists, delivering highly differentiated learning tailored to EHCP outcomes.

You will use adaptive teaching, personalised communication approaches and life-skill development to help pupils progress. The role starts in September and is full-time in a specialist environment.

Qualifications

• QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching pupils with SEND or complex learning needs.
• Strong understanding of adaptive teaching and differentiated curriculum planning.
• Ability to plan from pupils' individual starting points rather than age-related expectations.
• Calm, patient and nurturing approach to supporting pupils with complex needs.
• Strong classroom leadership and ability to direct Teaching Assistants.
• Confidence collaborating with therapists, families and professionals.
• Commitment to developing communication, independence and life skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver highly differentiated, personalised learning linked to EHCP outcomes.
• Teach pupils with Autism, SLD, PMLD and complex needs.
• Adapt curriculum content and teaching approaches to individual development.
• Support pupils to develop functional communication using visual resources and systems.
• Create structured, nurturing classrooms that promote engagement and wellbeing.
• Deliver learning via 1:1, small group and whole-class formats as appropriate.
• Use sensory and experiential methods for developmental curricula.
• Promote independence and life skills throughout the day.
• Collaborate with Therapists and staff to embed strategies in practice.
• Monitor progress through observation and assessments; contribute to reviews.
• Engage with parents and carers to ensure consistency across learning.
