Job description

We’re BDO

We’re an accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today’s changing world.

We work with Britain’s economic engine—ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited, high-growth businesses—and directly advise their owners and management teams.

Our Commitment

Our focus on delivering quality audit work for the public interest is our key priority. The Not-for-Profit sector is an important and growing part of BDO’s business, with specialists delivering exceptional service to clients in Charities, Housing, and Education. Our fees exceed £34m, having grown over 50% in four years and continuing to expand.

Role of Audit Manager

As an Audit Manager, you will be the primary contact for managing your client portfolio, assisting Partners with client work, and contributing to the Not-for-Profit Team. You will play a key role in delivering BDO’s national Not-for-Profit strategy, including growth initiatives.

Your main responsibilities include managing a portfolio across various sectors such as charities, housing, or education, based on your preferences.

How We Support Your Success

We emphasize quality in our work, delivering trustworthy and transparent audits relied upon by stakeholders. You should be proactive, capable of managing your tasks, and confident in collaborating and communicating with Senior Managers, Directors, and Partners. Your duties include:

  • Acting as a major point of contact within the firm, responding promptly to requests and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Managing the financial aspects of your portfolio.
  • Completing assignments within budgets and timelines, identifying opportunities for additional billing.
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing for assignments.
  • Identifying business and sales opportunities.
  • Supporting business development activities and new business communication.
  • Participating in recruitment, staff development, and motivation.
  • Collaborating as part of the management team on resource planning and efficiency improvements.
  • Representing the firm at marketing events and staying informed about our services.
  • Serving as a role model for trainees and staff.
Qualifications and Experience
  • ACA/ICAS qualified or equivalent.
  • Experience managing people.
  • Strong knowledge of UK and International GAAS, IFRS, UK GAAP, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with financial products, regulatory issues, and compliance including anti-money laundering.
  • Experience with systems/controls testing, substantive audits, consolidations, group audits, and statutory accounts.
  • Project management experience.
Our Culture and Future

We value authenticity and celebrate contributions. We promote agile working and provide resources for career development. Mutual support and respect are core values, with a focus on collaboration, learning, and sharing expertise. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive environment, investing in our people, and shaping the future together with openness and clarity.
