The Role:

  • To manage individual audit assignments and execute audit assignment work as required within the Finance Audit Team.
  • To execute all audit work with objectivity and independence from the business area, executive management and risk management
  • To deliver audit outputs at the necessary level of quality to satisfy internal requirements and external expectations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and taking responsibility for the work delegated to and performed by team members.
  • Taking responsibility for the identification of, and request for, information needed to help identify key risks, key controls and scope areas.
  • Taking responsibility for the design and performance of audit testing across different business/operational areas.
  • Performing and/or overseeing audit testing across different business/operational areas.
  • Producing and reviewing audit files and working papers to ensure that they are of a consistently high standard in accordance with the requirements of the Internal Audit Standards Manual for all work performed under your responsibility
  • Leading and/or supporting in the discussion of the results of audit testing and any resultant observations with stakeholders
  • Ensuring that affected stakeholders are informed about the scope and purpose of the audit and all aspects of the audit timeline at the onset of the assignment and kept appraised of progress as the assignment progresses.
  • Actively participate in any Audit Community to which you belong

Experience:

  • Experience of influencing and negotiation at all levels of the organisation, strong awareness of when to escalate audit issues upwards to more senior members of the audit team
  • Experience of influencing others and building strong relationships across the business
  • Significant experience of a broad range of audit frameworks and approaches, covering financial and non-financial risk
  • Experience of assessing, reacting quickly and decisively to problems once identified, taking tough decisions where needed
  • Experience of working closely with senior management, actuaries and Audit Committees to understand and deliver against expectations
  • Some experience of contributing to the development of business audit plans to ensure all major risks an area / BU faces are covered
  • Experience of acting as a technical coach / mentor to less experienced members of an audit team
  • Some experience of leading more junior auditors on complex and large assignments
  • Experience of using actuarial understanding linked with finance knowledge to support decision making.

Knowledge

  • Detailed knowledge of professional standards and codes relating to the actuarial specialism.
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. Actuary, or part qualified actuary) with significant relevant actuarial experience
  • Detailed level knowledge of life and pensions products, markets and competitors·
  • Good knowledge of actuarial modelling and financial reporting Detailed knowledge of audit tools, techniques and industry best practice
  • Detailed level knowledge of the UK Financial Services sector, including regulatory, governance and risk management rules and regulations relevant to financial and non-financial risk
  • Detailed knowledge of M&G products, systems and distribution methods

  • Ability to build relationships with and understand the business whilst retaining complete independence as an auditor
  • Strong personal presence and resilience
