Job summary

Michael Page is recruiting an Audit Manager for a well-established accountancy practice in the UK. The role leads the audit function, collaborating with senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality audits and shape strategy.

You will manage complex audits, own engagements from planning to completion, and mentor junior staff while travelling to client sites as needed. Hybrid working is available and a competitive salary is offered.

Qualifications

  • ACA or ACCA qualified.
  • Experience as Audit Manager or Assistant Manager in practice.
  • Strong auditing technical background, especially in owner-managed businesses.
  • Experience leading audits and managing teams.
  • Ambitious and proactive with a desire to shape a growing department.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites, including overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, execution, and completion of complex audit assignments, including group audits and owner-managed businesses.
  • Own audit engagements from initial planning through to completion.
  • Serve as primary on-site client contact, managing queries and relationships.
  • Produce high-quality, review-ready audit files to minimise Partner involvement.
  • Manage team resources and capacity for efficient delivery of audits.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members.
  • Act as technical point of contact, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP.
  • Work across a flexible portfolio tailored to your expertise (audit-focused or mixed).

As Audit Manager, you will take on a highly visible leadership role, working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality audits while helping to shape audit strategy and processes.

Description

Key responsibilities of the Audit Manager:

  • Leading the planning, execution, and completion of complex audit assignments, including group audits and owner-managed businesses (OMBs)
  • Taking full ownership of audit engagements from initial planning through to completion
  • Acting as the primary on-site client contact, managing queries and building strong relationships
  • Producing high-quality, review-ready audit files to minimise Partner and Director involvement
  • Managing team resources and capacity to ensure efficient delivery of audit assignments
  • Supporting, mentoring, and developing junior team members
  • Acting as a technical point of contact, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP
  • Working across a flexible portfolio tailored to your expertise (audit-focused or mixed including statutory accounts and tax)
Profile

A successful Audit Manager should have:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Proven experience at Audit Manager or Assistant Manager level within practice
  • Strong technical background in auditing, particularly within owner-managed businesses
  • Experience leading audits and managing teams
  • Ambitious, proactive, and keen to play a role in shaping a growing department
  • Comfortable working in a hands‑on role within a dynamic firm environment
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites (including occasional overnight stays)
