Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients across industries, meeting deadlines and ensuring regulatory compliance
• Lead audit planning, identify risk areas and determine efficient audit evidence gathering
• Supervise and review junior team members to ensure quality work
• Handle client correspondence to organise assignments and timelines
• Conduct on-site client visits and build lasting relationships
• Monitor filing deadlines including corporation tax and Companies House submissions
• Coordinate with other departments to plan and execute compliance work
• Summarise project data into clear, reviewable formats and reports

Job description

If you're a qualified auditor looking for a role where your technical skills, client relationships, and team leadership genuinely matter, this could be the right next step.

Our client is a well-regarded accountancy practice looking for an experienced Audit Senior to manage a varied client portfolio, lead on complex audit work, and support the development of junior colleagues. You'll work closely with managers, directors, and partners in a team that takes professional development seriously and invests meaningfully in its people.

Working pattern: Hybrid (two home working days per week, core office hours 10am to 2pm).

What you'll be doing

• Managing a portfolio of clients across a range of industries, meeting all deadlines and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, with direct reporting to managers, directors, and partners
• Leading on audit planning, including preparing planning memoranda, identifying risk areas, and determining the most efficient approach to gathering audit evidence
• Supervising and reviewing the work of senior, semi-senior, and junior team members, ensuring files are complete and all review points are addressed before handover to the manager or partner
• Handling client correspondence directly to organise assignments, agree timelines, and coordinate scheduling
• Carrying out on-site client visits, acting as a trusted adviser and building strong, lasting relationships
• Monitoring filing deadlines across the portfolio, including corporation tax and Companies House submissions
• Liaising with other departments to ensure compliance work is planned and executed at the right time
• Collating and summarising project data into clear, reviewable formats, including draft projections and reports

What we're looking for

• ACA or ACCA qualified, with solid experience in an accountancy practice
• Strong, up-to-date technical knowledge of accounting standards and recent developments in the field
• Proficient in Sage, Excel, and Word
• Confident communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively across a wide range of clients and colleagues
• Well organised, with the ability to manage a varied workload and competing priorities
• Client-focused and commercially aware

Nice to have

• Experience with CaseWare audit software
• Prior experience supervising junior team members (6 to 12 months preferred)
• Basic knowledge of corporation tax computation preparation
