Job summary

Able Bridge Recruitment is partnering with a truly independent Scottish accountancy firm to recruit an assistant audit manager. The role is office-based at least 2 days per week with flexible/hybrid arrangements and a chance to mentor trainees.

You will lead audits, manage client portfolios across sectors, and work closely with RI and audit managers on technical reviews. UK PQE of 3+ years and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• UK-qualified accountant with minimum 3 years PQE in a UK environment.
• Strong technical audit knowledge essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience supervising/mentoring junior staff and managing audits.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied client portfolio across sectors including Technology, Health Care, Construction, Manufacturing and Charities.
• Review work of junior staff with RI/audit managers and provide feedback.
• Lead audits with minimal supervision.
• Plan and coordinate audit processes and budgets.
• Engage with clients to understand industry and regulatory environment, and build relationships.
• Guide team in test design and control evaluation, and recommend improvements.
• Develop less experienced staff through on-the-job training.
• Prepare/review audit completion reports and statutory accounts.

The Responsibilitie

This vacancy, the result of growth will report into audit manager/audit partnership group and will be office based for at least 2 days per week.

On a day-to-day basis you can expect to be responsible for the following;

• Manage a varied client portfolio for including entities in the following sectors: Technology, Health Care, Construction, Manufacturing and Charities. Clients range from corporate clients, owner managed businesses, and group entities.
• Work closely with Responsible Individuals and audit managers, reviewing the work of junior staff prior to overall RI review, resolving queries wherever possible and providing constructive feedback.
• Lead own audits with minimal support.
• Manage and direct the audit process taking responsibility for planning and co-ordinating the work.
• Liaise with clients to develop an understanding of the client's industry and the general business/economic regulatory environment.
• Guide the team in designing tests to the ensure adequacy of controls/identify weaknesses in systems and make recommendations to clients.
• Develop less experienced staff, providing on the job training and assist in their professional development.
• Liaise directly with clients, maintaining and building relationships to deliver a service that exceeds clients' expectations.
• Draft/review audit completion reports.
• Take responsibility for your own workload, including timely completion of audit work, ensuring work is completed within budget.
• Prepare statutory accounts and draft corporation tax computations.

The Requirements

You will be a professionally qualified accountant with a minimum of 3 years PQE experience within a UK environment. We would welcome applications from candidates who have previous managerial/supervisory experience within a financial audit capability. It goes without saying that a strong technical audit knowledge is essential. Communication skills in written and verbal form are also essential.
