Job summary

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Medical Secretary to support the Medicine Directorate. You will handle audio typing from digital dictation, photocopying, filing and extensive clerical duties to keep the team operating efficiently.

You’ll work across sites in Halifax, with responsibilities spanning scanning, referrals and telephone duties, all while maintaining deadlines and patient confidentiality within an NHS framework.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) with literacy/numeracy demonstrated.
  • RSA II typing/word processing qualification.
  • Understanding of Medical Terminology.
  • Willing to undertake further development/training.

Responsibilities

  • Audio typing from digital dictation, photocopying and filing.
  • Clerical support to Medical Secretaries and team.

Supporting the Medical Secretaries in Medicine, covering all admin functions including scanning, photo copying and answering the phones. You will also be processing large volumes of Audio typing from digital dictation all whilst working with nurses and consultants to deliver admin support (subject to service needs) and ensuring deadlines are met.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
  • English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application
  • RSA II typing/word processing
  • Willing to undertake further development/training
  • Understanding of Medical Terminology
Knowledge, experience & expertise
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment (to deadlines and targets)
  • Knowledge of software packages such as Word, Excel
  • Experience of working in an NHS environment
  • Experience of working with Winscribe digital dictation
  • Knowledge of EPR

The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
