Job summary

Horbury Academy in Wakefield is seeking an Attendance Officer to join our academy team. You will promote attendance and punctuality, support pupils and families, and work with staff, parents, and the Education Welfare Officer to remove barriers to regular attendance.

The role involves monitoring attendance patterns, investigating absence, coordinating interventions, maintaining accurate records, and producing reports for leaders.

Qualifications

• Understanding attendance procedures, safeguarding and child protection requirements.
• Strong administrative and ICT skills.
• Experience working with vulnerable or disengaged young people in an educational setting.
• Ability to work independently whilst also contributing within a wider team.

Responsibilities

• Monitor attendance patterns and analyse data to identify trends.
• Investigate persistent absence and coordinate targeted interventions.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and generate reports for leaders.
• Undertake or support home visits where appropriate and liaise with external agencies.
• Collaborate with parents/carers, staff and the Education Welfare Officer to improve outcomes.
• Work within safeguarding requirements and contribute to a culture where attendance matters.
