Job summary

Richard Lander School is seeking an Attendance and Educational Improvement Officer to contribute to raising achievement by improving school attendance. The role involves providing specialist support to meet attendance targets, with a focus on persistent absence and safeguarding.

The successful applicant will work with families to assess causes of absence, promote positive attitudes toward education, and help learners return to regular full-time education, including interventions and DBS checks

Responsibilities

• Provide a specialist service to assist the school in meeting their obligations and targets in relation to school attendance, especially persistent absence.
• Promote positive attitudes by students and families towards education and ensure that parents/carers are made fully aware of their statutory responsibilities.
• Make unsupervised contact with families in their own homes and elsewhere to assess the reasons impacting on the attendance of individual students, facilitating their return to access to regular full time education provision.
• Establish and develop a professional service to support the school in raising attendance, investigating persistent absences and improving punctuality.
