Job summary

Torbay Children's Services is recruiting a permanent newly qualified social worker to join the ASYE programme, with starts in an early 2027 or September 2027 cohort. The role centres on casework with children, young people and families, built up gradually through a protected allocation and a four-week induction.

It is a 37-hour post with hybrid working, up to four days of protected development time each month and a route into the Year 2 programme.

Qualifications

• Recognised social work qualification (degree, diploma or certificate).
• Current Social Work England registration and commitment to ongoing CPD.
• Experience with direct work with children, young people and families.
• Ability to work with professionals both independently and in a team.
• Knowledge of children’s social care legislation, safeguarding and planning.

Responsibilities

• Hold a protected allocation of children, increasing gradually as confidence builds.
• Develop practice through induction and the NQSW development programme.
• Take part in structured learning and development with support from the Learning Academy and managers.
