Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking an Associate Town Planner to join their growing planning team with offices in Oxford, Chelmsford and Northampton. You will work with landowners, developers and private clients, delivering professional planning advice on a diverse portfolio of projects.

The role involves managing a varied caseload, preparing and submitting applications, and liaising with local planning authorities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Town Planning or related discipline.
• MRTPI status or working towards chartership.
• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system.
• Experience in a planning consultancy and client-facing roles.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of planning applications and development projects.
• Provide strategic planning advice to clients and landowners.
• Prepare and submit planning applications and supporting documents.
• Undertake planning appraisals and assess development opportunities.
• Prepare planning statements, reports and other planning documents.

• Support junior team members and contribute to their development.

Job Title: Associate Town Planner

The Role

As an Associate Town Planner, you will work closely with landowners, developers, rural businesses and private clients, providing professional planning advice across a varied portfolio of projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing a varied caseload of planning applications and development projects
• Providing strategic planning advice to clients and landowners
• Preparing and submitting planning applications and supporting documentation
• Undertaking planning appraisals and assessing development opportunities
• Preparing planning statements, reports and other planning documents
• Liaising with local planning authorities, consultants and other stakeholders
• Managing client relationships and providing a high level of professional advice
• Supporting junior members of the team and contributing to their development
• Identifying opportunities for new business and supporting the continued growth of the planning team

The Candidate

• A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
• MRTPI status or be working towards chartership
• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system
• Previous experience within a planning consultancy environment
• Experience managing planning applications and working directly with clients
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to manage your own workload and work to deadlines
• A commercially minded and proactive approach
• Experience within rural, land, estate or development planning would be advantageous, although applications from planners with a broader consultancy background will also be considered.
