Associate Technical Consultant, Water Engineer

Role Context

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Process Engineer to join our growing Water team. This is a senior technical leadership role focused on the delivery of municipal, industrial and energy-sector water projects across the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and specialist process engineering expertise across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and concept development through FEED, detailed design, commissioning support and operational improvement programmes.

The role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of water, wastewater, desalination, water reuse and industrial water treatment projects supporting clients in energy, chemicals, mining, infrastructure and utility sectors.

The Principal Process Engineer will act as a recognised technical authority within the Water team, supporting project delivery, client engagement, business development and the development of junior engineers.

You’ll Be
Technical Leadership
  • Leading process engineering activities on water, wastewater, desalination, water reuse and industrial water treatment projects.
  • Providing technical leadership during concept, feasibility, Pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design phases.
  • Developing and reviewing Process Design Basis documents, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mass and energy balances, hydraulic calculations, treatment process sizing calculations and process control philosophies.
  • Undertaking technology assessment, process selection and optioneering studies.
  • Providing specialist technical support and troubleshooting for operating facilities.
  • Performing technical assurance reviews and independent checking activities.
  • Ensuring engineering deliverables are produced in accordance with client requirements and applicable standards.
Project Delivery
  • Delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Coordinating activities across multidisciplinary engineering teams including civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control disciplines.
  • Supporting project managers with planning, resource forecasting and technical risk management.
  • Participating in client workshops, design reviews, HAZOPs, technical reviews and value engineering sessions.
  • Contributing to commissioning planning and operational readiness activities where required.
Client Relationship Management
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships through the provision of trusted technical advice.
  • Acting as the technical point of contact for key clients.
  • Presenting technical solutions and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Supporting technical due diligence, owner's engineer and independent engineering assignments.
  • Representing the company at professional events, conferences and industry forums.
Business Development
  • Supporting preparation of technical and commercial proposals.
  • Leading technical input into bids, tenders and framework opportunities.
  • Developing innovative solutions that address client challenges and deliver value.
  • Contributing to market engagement and strategic growth initiatives within the Water sector.
  • Assisting with capability statements, thought leadership material and technical publications.
People Development
  • Mentoring and coaching graduate, engineer and senior engineer level staff.
  • Supporting competency development and succession planning within the Water team.
  • Providing technical guidance, peer reviews and knowledge sharing across the business.
  • Contributing to Community of Practice
Experience
You’ll have:
Essential
  • Significant experience in process engineering within the water sector.
  • Proven track record delivering complex water and wastewater projects.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing process engineering deliverables.
Desirable
  • Industrial water treatment experience within energy, mining, chemicals or manufacturing sectors.
  • Desalination and water reuse experience.
  • Technical due diligence, owner's engineer or independent engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting bids and business development activities. A willingness to travel, stay away from home and undertake site-based work

Qualifications
  • Masters in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership through IChemE or equivalent professional institution.
  • Postgraduate qualification in water, wastewater, environmental or process engineering would be advantageous.
