Job description

Associate/Senior Associate Planner

We are searching for an experienced Associate/Senior Associate Planner at our Edinburgh - Atholl Exchange facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

RPS is looking for an Associate/Senior Associate Planner to join our Planning team to be based in either our Belfast, Glasgow or Edinburgh office. Working alongside a range of multi-disciplinary services, the role will provide an opportunity to work on varied projects, primarily in the renewables sector, providing you with rich experience in town planning across Northern Ireland and Scotland. Although work for this role is focused in the renewables sector, there will be opportunities to work on projects that include major planning applications for infrastructure, as well as supporting the delivery of office, retail, or residential schemes.

We’re RPS, and our projects are all around you. We define, design, and manage projects that create shared value in a complex, urbanising, and resource-scarce world. Our people are our success. We need people who share our passion for solving important problems. Here you’ll find work that is challenging and rewarding, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.

What you’ll be doing

This role offers a progressive step towards managing planning casework independently and developing a career pathway towards an Associate/Technical Director role. You will act as a link between Technical Directors/Directors and the wider team, providing mentorship and support. You’ll manage and oversee client projects from start to finish, ensuring successful delivery.

A typical day could include:
  • Supporting Planning Directors in delivering their caseloads
  • Engaging in business development initiatives
  • Supporting Senior Planners, Planners, Assistant Planners, and Graduates
  • Leading bid proposals, supporting tender submissions, and project management
  • Assisting in public consultations and representing RPS at public events
  • Attending and monitoring committee and other hearings
Who we’re looking for
  • A fully qualified RTPI chartered town planner
  • Substantive planning experience in the renewables sector (wind, solar, BESS, etc.)
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a corporate environment
  • A passion for planning, development, and environmental issues
  • Good knowledge of planning policy and emerging policies
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Market awareness and understanding of local planning issues
What’s in it for you?

We support learning and development through accredited training, professional qualifications, and mentoring. A personal development plan and clear career pathway will support your growth. We value diversity and encourage different perspectives. Our flexible, hybrid working arrangements support work-life balance.

What happens next?

The Talent Acquisition Team will contact you regarding your application. If progressed, you will speak with a recruiter before meeting the team.
