Job summary

Social Security Scotland is recruiting an Associate Security Architect to join the Security Architecture Team within the Digital Risk & Security Branch. The role focuses on securing AWS cloud environments, applying security-by-design across the development lifecycle, and ensuring compliance with public sector standards to protect citizen data.

You'll design secure systems, provide guidance to delivery teams, and influence security controls and guardrails.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience designing secure architectures on AWS
• Knowledge of government security standards and AWS controls
• Ability to communicate technical risks to various stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Design and review system architectures using security patterns and AWS best practices
• Recommend security controls aligned with government standards
• Provide specialist security guidance to multidisciplinary delivery teams (cloud and on‑premises)
• Assess security risks and advise risk owners on tolerances and mitigations
• Maintain security documentation and artefacts
• Promote Secure by Design culture across programmes
• Define and review AWS security controls and guardrails (IAM, encryption, logging, network security)
