Job summary

Smith Nephew is seeking an Associate Scientist to advance microbiology research supporting new product development in our Hull-based team. You will design experiments, analyze results, and present insights to influence R&D directions.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Microbiology or a related Life Sciences discipline, with relevant laboratory experience.
  • Experience planning and conducting microbiological experiments, generating high quality, reliable data.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret results and communicate findings clearly through reports and presentations.
  • Collaborative approach to work across multidisciplinary teams to solve scientific and technical challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct microbiology experiments and laboratory testing activities to support new product development projects.
  • Work to agreed timelines and project schedules, ensuring research activities are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Analyze experimental data, document findings, and prepare reports with conclusions and recommendations.
  • Present results and insights to colleagues to guide future R&D decisions.
  • Collaborate with wound biology specialists and cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve challenges.
  • Contribute to discussions around microbiological theory, research methodologies, and practical applications.
  • Stay up to date with emerging microbiology research and industry developments.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues across New Product Development and the wider organisation.
  • Build and maintain internal networks to support learning and problem solving.
