Job Summary

Our Professional & Financial Risks team (PFR) is seeking an Associate with experience handling insurance broker negligence claims to join the team in Bristol. PFR is part of the firm’s Insurance group and serves a well‑established client base, acting for the majority of Professional Indemnity insurers and their insureds.

Role Overview

The team manages a wide variety of claims against professionals such as solicitors, insurance brokers, accountants and financial advisers. This role focuses on defending insurance broker negligence claims and representing brokers in commercial disputes during a period of growth for the practice area.

Responsibilities include defending liability claims pre‑ and post‑litigation, providing advice on regulatory issues and risk management, and advising insurers on policy coverage aspects. The team represents major professional indemnity insurers and large professional services firms and has been top‑ranked for Professional Negligence in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of professional indemnity claims with an emphasis on broker negligence claims.
• Act for brokers in commercial disputes, including commission claims and other disputes.
• Deliver high‑quality, timely output to clients, meeting service level agreements.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of the team’s service, support, processes and procedures.
• Demonstrate the values and behaviours the team is known for and keep the focus on client service.
• Capture and collate required management information in line with agreed practice for clients.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• 2–5 years of PQE, ideally with experience in handling insurance broker negligence claims.
• Strong grounding in litigation experience; insurance experience desirable but not essential.
• Able to deliver legal and commercial solutions and establish collaborative relationships with clients and colleagues.
• Efficient and commercially minded with an understanding of financial hygiene.

• Good knowledge of legal procedures and excellent communication skills (oral and written).
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, confidentiality and integrity.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
