Job description

Join Tetra Tech as a Chartered Structural Engineer and apply your expertise to technically demanding nuclear projects that require precision, compliance and engineering excellence. This role is designed for an experienced professional who enjoys solving complex problems and delivering high-quality structural design within a highly regulated environment. If you thrive on technical challenges and want to focus on engineering quality rather than people management, this position offers the ideal platform.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

This role focuses on delivering technically robust structural engineering solutions within the nuclear sector. Working as part of multidisciplinary teams, you will provide specialist design, analysis and assurance across projects from early concept through to detailed design and implementation. You will act as a technical authority within project teams, ensuring designs meet nuclear, industry and statutory standards while supporting safe and compliant project delivery. The position is centred on hands‑on engineering expertise, allowing you to concentrate on complex technical work, independent verification activities and maintaining the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.

Your Impact in this Position

Your expertise will play a critical role in enabling safe and reliable nuclear infrastructure. By delivering technically sound design and analysis, contributing to safety case development and supporting robust engineering decision‑making, you will help ensure projects meet the demanding expectations of the nuclear industry. Your input will support multidisciplinary collaboration, strengthen technical assurance processes and contribute to the successful delivery of projects that operate within strict regulatory frameworks.

Core Capabilities

Technical Engineering Expertise

  • Deliver structural engineering design and analysis across complex nuclear projects
  • Produce high-quality calculations, drawings and technical documentation
  • Apply sound engineering judgement within a highly regulated environment

Technical Assurance & Quality

  • Review and verify technical outputs to ensure compliance with nuclear and statutory standards
  • Support independent checking and validation activities
  • Maintain rigorous quality assurance across engineering deliverables

Nuclear Safety & Compliance

  • Contribute to safety cases, substantiation and design justification
  • Ensure designs align with nuclear safety requirements and industry best practice
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and security in technical delivery

Problem Solving & Collaboration

  • Provide expert technical input within multidisciplinary teams
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers and clients to resolve complex technical challenges
  • Support informed engineering decisions across projects

Technical Leadership & Knowledge

  • Act as a subject‑matter specialist within project teams
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving nuclear standards and regulatory guidance
  • Promote engineering excellence and continuous improvement in technical practices
Qualifications, Experience & Skills

You will hold a degree in Civil, Structural or a related engineering discipline and be a Chartered Engineer with a recognised professional institution. You will have significant experience delivering structural engineering solutions within the nuclear sector or similarly regulated industries. Strong technical capability in structural analysis, design assurance and regulatory compliance is essential, along with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Working Environment

This role offers flexible and hybrid working arrangements, combining office collaboration with remote working depending on project requirements. You will work within multidisciplinary engineering teams across Tetra Tech’s UK offices, with occasional travel to client sites where required. Due to the nature of the projects involved, the role requires the ability to obtain and maintain UK security clearance, and a full UK driving licence may be required for certain site visits.

In alignment with the Equality Act 2010, we will make reasonable adjustments to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements. This could include adaptations to work schedules, training approaches, or the physical workspace. Please inform us if you need any accommodations during the recruitment process or in your day‑to‑day role.
