Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd t/a Russell Taylor Group is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead the delivery of critical nuclear infrastructure projects from our Cockermouth, Cumbria office.

You will own complex structural packages from concept to detail, provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, ensure quality and regulatory compliance, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on nationally significant projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified civil/structural engineer with experience in nuclear or highly regulated sectors.
  • Proven ability to lead technical work packages and ensure governance and quality.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to mentor engineers toward Chartered status.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and analysis of complex projects in the nuclear sector.
  • Produce and review structural calculations, reports, drawings and specifications.
  • Manage technical work packages from concept to delivery.
  • Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support safety cases, substantiation and technical justifications.

Our client is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join their growing nuclear engineering team based in Cockermouth, Cumbria. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer who enjoys combining technical excellence with project leadership and wants to play a key role in delivering complex engineering solutions within one of the UK's most highly regulated industries.

The Opportunity

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you'll take ownership of complex structural engineering packages from concept through to detailed design and delivery. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you'll provide technical leadership, ensure engineering quality, support project delivery and mentor the next generation of engineers.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Leading the structural design and analysis of complex engineering projects within the nuclear sector.
  • Producing and reviewing structural calculations, technical reports, drawings and specifications.
  • Managing technical work packages from initial concept through to successful project completion.
  • Collaborating closely with project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Supporting the preparation of safety cases, engineering substantiation and technical justifications.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards, nuclear regulations and quality procedures.
  • Providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to graduate and junior engineers.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement and engineering best practice.
  • Supporting successful project delivery by managing technical risks and maintaining high engineering standards.
What We're Looking For
  • Degree qualified in Civil, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience delivering structural engineering design within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated industry.
  • Strong understanding of structural design principles, technical assurance and engineering governance.
  • Experience leading technical work packages on complex engineering projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineers.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or already Chartered with a recognised professional institution.
  • Full UK driving licence desirable.
  • Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
