Role Overview
  • As an associate mechanical engineer, you will be taking a leading role in a number of our most prestigious projects.
  • The Basingstoke & Guildford Offices are heavily involved in mission-critical facilities associated with aviation, healthcare, and defence sectors.
  • We will be looking to you to not only be a client-facing representative of WSP but also to lead an engineering delivery team in providing innovative and sustainable solutions.
  • The team is supported by our wider Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health teams in Basingstoke and Guildford.
  • The Guildford & Basingstoke team is a close group of engineers working together in an effective and cooperative team atmosphere with a flexible hybrid working model. Our team finds this a hugely beneficial feature for managing a healthy work-life balance.
  • As part of the wider WSP team, we will be looking to you to incorporate our philosophies of sustainability, net zero carbon, digital design, modern methods of construction, and smart systems into your design work.
Your Team
  • Our team is comprised of 35 engineers working across the Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health specialisms.
  • Our team is split across our Brighton, Southampton, Heathrow, Basingstoke, and Guildford sites, giving the flexibility to work in either location on any given day. Many of our team choose to alternate the office they work in to suit personal and client needs.
  • As part of our team, you would be working on some of our major projects including Gatwick and Heathrow Airports, Royal Berkshire Hospital, and several public and private sector client sites.
  • You will be reporting to our Technical Director for Mechanical Engineering.
  • You will be able to utilize graduate, assistant, senior, and principal engineers in supporting roles around you, as well as dedicated BIM and Sustainability specialists to contribute to your projects.
  • You will have the ability to work as part of a team but also take a leading role in managing engineers towards the delivery of our key projects.
  • You should be able to apply technical judgment and resourcefulness to feasibility studies, concept, scheme, and detailed design, as well as construction support phases of projects.
  • You must be able to represent WSP to our clients while also understanding and delivering client needs in engineering solutions.
  • You should have a working knowledge of UK mechanical building services design, including relevant standards, codes, and regulations.
  • You must be able to manage the technical, cost, and programme elements of project delivery.
