Associate Mechanical Engineer - Education Group

RPS is currently seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer for the Education Group at either the Birmingham or Manchester office, with hybrid working options.

About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple sectors, including residential, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing, data centres, and energy. We focus on balancing form and function, sustainability, materiality, cost, and constructability. Digitalisation is central to our delivery, enabling clients to experience designs from concept through detailed drawings, supported by expertise across industries and disciplines.

What you’ll be doing: This role offers career progression as an Associate Mechanical Engineer within our industry-leading team, renowned for expertise across sectors.

  • Support and lead education projects.
  • Collaborate with the Education Lead.
  • Lead a team of engineers, energy modellers, and BIM technicians to deliver projects from concept to RIBA Stage 3.
  • Manage projects through Final Contractor Proposal and oversee construction stages.
  • Support development of design and modelling processes, ensuring BIM and business modelling meet DfE requirements.

Who we’re looking for: To succeed, you should have experience in:

  • Client engagement via CEM process and fast-paced project environments.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Financial management of projects, ensuring budget and KPI targets.
  • Resource management to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Additionally, you will:

  • Support architects and energy modellers in delivering modelling requirements, including daylight, overheating, and operational energy.
  • Liaise with BIM team to refine deliverables.
  • Challenge design solutions for optimal outcomes.
  • Contribute to education sector development and business initiatives.
