Job description

Why join us?

Following a recent five partner team hire, DWF are seeking an experienced Associate to join our Marine team in London as we continue to add depth and strength to our team and offering.

The Marine team act on some of the market's most complex and high-profile claims worldwide and clients include marine insurers (UK and international), P&I clubs, shipowners, charterers, freight forwarders, port and terminal operators and commodity traders.

Marine insurance is a globally significant market and a core area of focus for DWF. Our work covers wet and dry shipping and we represent our clients in cargo, charterparty, cross border disputes and advise on challenges facing the sector including sanctions, maritime piracy, maritime security and arrests.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the handling of marine insurance claims (including hull, cargo, war, marine liability, mortgagee’s interest insurance and yachts), wet claims (including salvage, collision and general average) and dry shipping disputes (including charterparty, ship sale and ship building).
  • Work on a wide array of claims across all classes of marine insurance, including coverage, defence, and subrogation.
  • Manage shipping disputes and marine casualty work, ensuring effective resolution.
  • Draft policies as required, ensuring they meet legal standards and client needs.
  • Attend business development events to network and promote our services.

What will help you succeed in this role?

Essential

  • Associate level experience from a recognised shipping law firm.
  • Experience in the field of marine insurance is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience with court procedures and arbitration (particularly LMAA).
  • Language skills would be advantageous but not essential.

What we offer?

We are committed to ensuring that each member of our team feels valued and duly rewarded during their time at DWF.

We are an equal opportunities employer that celebrates diversity and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all. We aim to create a positive experience for all candidates and offer any adjustments or additional support needed. If you're excited about the opportunity but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with all the requirements, please apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for the role or others across the wider team.
