As demand for exceptional engineering design from our clients continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for an Associate Director (HV) to oversee the overall technical delivery of substation designs within the High Voltage discipline.

About You

You will have extensive technical experience in the UK Transmission design industry, particularly with key clients such as National Grid and SSEN. You should be capable of leading the technical output of a team of engineers and CAD technicians across the UK, fostering a culture of design quality management, fulfilling key project roles, and supporting tendering and business development efforts.

What You Will Do
  • Act as technical lead and manage a team of Engineers & CAD technicians within the Substations discipline.
  • Collaborate with other sectors and disciplines within BakerHicks.
  • Take technical responsibility for projects, including quality control of outputs and approval of key documents.
  • Contribute to staff training and development, emphasizing construction awareness.
  • Support the Director of Power in tendering and business development activities.
  • Be actively involved in various projects.
  • Review and approve HV substation detailed documents, such as technical reports, design concepts, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure adherence to document and drawing control procedures.
  • Contribute to design input/output within the risk management process.
What You Will Bring
  • A BEng/BSc in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Extensive experience in HV Substation design.
  • Ability to hold National Grid CDAE role for HV Substations / Plant and LCDAE role for Substation schemes.
  • CEng status is advantageous but not essential.
