Job description

The Keegans Group is seeking an Associate Director Fire Engineer within the Compliance and Safety Team. This role involves providing fire safety support and advice, and assisting in delivering appropriate fire safety guidance.

This position reports to the Director of Compliance and Safety and requires collaboration with other members of the C&S Division.

This is a full-time/permanent role, preferably based in London, but applications from nationwide will be considered.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in project meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders, providing fire safety guidance and recommendations.
• Review design documents such as drawings, reports, and specifications, offering fire safety comments and advice. Prepare technical reports and guidance notes related to fire safety issues impacting projects or client services.
• Conduct research into fire safety implications of new technologies, materials, approaches, and regulations, and support the implementation of findings.
• Perform qualitative and/or quantitative risk assessments and present findings to stakeholders for informed decision-making.
• Build and maintain a trusted internal network across the organization.
• Generate fire safety strategy reports for new and existing buildings.
• Review external wall assessments in accordance with PAS 9980 guidance.
• Assist in updating and maintaining internal best practice guidance and documentation, and prepare proposals for design or research services as needed.
• Create technical guidance notes related to fire safety to support group members in delivering compliant designs. Present at knowledge sessions or CPD events.
• Manage project records using Deltek, including fee management and forecasting. Prepare and issue invoices.
• Ensure contracts are in place with clients and subconsultants.
• Manage and develop a team of Senior and Fire Engineers, including conducting reviews and appraisals.
• Lead weekly team meetings, overseeing resource needs and recruitment.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree or Master’s in construction or engineering disciplines such as Surveying, Fire Safety Engineering, etc.
• Membership with RICS, CABE, IFE, or IFSM.
• Significant experience in fire engineering or related fields, with desirable experience in façade fire engineering.
• Proficiency with BIM, AutoCAD, or similar tools for design and review.
• Experience with CFD modelling, probabilistic/reliability analysis, and tools like FDS.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks including Building Regulations, Fire Safety Act, Building Safety Act, BS 9991, and BS 9999.
• Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
• Support the Director of Safety and Compliance as needed.
• Aspiring towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the Engineering Council and IFE.
