Job summary

The Institute for Government is seeking an Associate Director to lead projects within the Devolution and Local Government (DLG) team. You will influence policy across the UK’s devolved and local government landscape, reporting to the Director for Devolution and Local Government, and working with cross-cutting teams.

You will shape new work, disseminate findings, and build external partnerships to secure funding, while maintaining the Institute’s independent, evidence-based approach.

Qualifications

• Several years of relevant professional experience in government, think tanks, or policy-focused organisations.
• Demonstrable interest in devolution and local government and ability to shape policy agendas.
• Strong research skills, both quantitative and qualitative, with the ability to translate evidence into actionable recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead projects within the Devolution and Local Government programme.
• Identify opportunities to create new work and disseminate existing outputs to achieve impact.
• Communicate conclusions credibly to audiences inside and outside government, including media and online platforms.
• Lead teams to deliver high-quality outputs to tight deadlines, with minimal senior input.
• Convene public events, roundtables and workshops to develop new insights and increase impact.
• Produce clear, accessible products that reflect the Institute’s non-partisan stance and independence.
• Build and maintain networks across government and other sectors to support funding and partnerships.
