Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an Associate Director – Civils to provide strategic leadership across frontend engineering design (FEED) and detailed civil/structural design for HV substations and related infrastructure. You will shape technical assurance, delivery excellence and market growth in the Transmission & Distribution sector.

You’ll lead multidisciplinary teams, drive design reviews and coordinate with clients such as National Grid and DNOs, while mentoring engineers and advancing BIM workflows

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution.
• Experience delivering complex multi-disciplinary civil projects for Energy Transition.
• Proven leadership of complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects in UK T&D with strong client facing capability.
• Fluent in BIM/CDE processes and design tools; data governance and model assurance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement and business development acumen.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil/structural design packages from concept through detailed design and construction support.
• Define civil layouts for substations including foundations, drainage, fencing, and access roads.
• Drive technical reviews and approvals for foundation design, structural framing, and oil containment.
• Chair design reviews and ensure compliance with client procedures.
• Plan resources, programmes and budgets; coordinate with subconsultants and suppliers.
• Provide construction-phase support including RFIs, site inspections and witnessing civil elements.
• Lead tenders, proposals and client presentations; build strategic client relationships.
• Line manage and mentor engineers; set technical standards and foster innovation.
