Job description

  • Are you an experienced building-services engineer who understands how buildings actually operate?
  • Can you combine technical authority with genuine people leadership?
  • Are you ready to lead an established team and shape the future of a growing consultancy service?

This is a significant opportunity to join a respected, partner-led UK building-services consultancy to lead their Operational Performance team.

The team supports clients throughout the operational life of their buildings; investigating technical problems, assessing asset condition, developing engineering solutions and helping clients improve performance, resilience, compliance and long-term investment decisions.

WHY JOIN?

This is more than a senior engineering position. You will gain meaningful responsibility for an established team and service line, with the autonomy to influence its technical standards, client relationships and future direction.

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of approximately ten people
  • Take responsibility for a varied portfolio of operational-building commissions
  • Shape engineering quality, processes and professional development
  • Build on established clients, frameworks and repeat relationships
  • Influence the commercial and strategic direction of the service
  • Work across a diverse range of buildings, sectors and engineering challenges
  • Progress within a respected partner-led consultancy
  • Receive a competitive package tailored to your experience
THE ROLE

You will lead the technical and operational delivery of a diverse portfolio of building-services consultancy assignments while developing the team and strengthening client relationships.

  • Provide technical leadership across mechanical and electrical building services
  • Lead investigations, root-cause analysis and the development of pragmatic engineering solutions
  • Review designs, specifications, reports and technical recommendations
  • Oversee plant replacement, refurbishment and performance-improvement projects
  • Deliver technical due diligence, condition surveys and dilapidations advice
  • Develop lifecycle, forward-capital and planned-maintenance strategies
  • Assess building controls, system performance and optimisation opportunities
  • Manage, mentor and develop engineers across different levels and disciplines
  • Allocate resources and oversee multiple fast-moving commissions
  • Manage project fees, budgets, programmes, profitability and commercial risk
THE PROFILE

We are looking for an established building-services engineer who combines technical depth with the ability to lead people, clients and commercial performance.

  • Extensive experience within building-services engineering
  • Deep technical expertise in either mechanical or electrical engineering, with credible knowledge across both disciplines
  • Strong understanding of how building-services systems are designed, operated, maintained and improved
  • Experience of existing and operational buildings - not solely major new-build projects
  • The ability to develop, review and challenge engineering solutions
  • Experience writing or approving technical reports, specifications and design recommendations
  • Proven responsibility for leading, mentoring and developing engineers
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills
  • Commercial experience covering fees, budgets, resources, profitability or account development
  • Sound knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations and best practice
  • A relevant engineering qualification and membership of an appropriate professional body
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status would be advantageous

A mechanical background would be particularly valuable, although strong electrical or multidisciplinary engineers will also be considered.

Direct consultancy experience is highly desirable, but it is not the only credible route. Candidates from operational estates, asset engineering, technical services, hard FM or contractor environments will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong engineering authority, leadership capability and experience solving problems within complex operational buildings.
