CIBSE Journal is seeking an experienced Mechanical Associate Director to lead the delivery of high-quality MEP projects across London. The role combines technical leadership with strategic influence on business direction, offering a clear pathway to Director level.

You will mentor junior engineers, manage fees and timelines, and collaborate with architects and project teams to deliver complex refurbishments and new builds.

Qualifications

• c10+ years’ experience in Mechanical Building Services Design.
• Membership of CIBSE, IMechE or working towards Chartered status.
• Experience delivering commercial refurbishment, fit-out and mixed-use developments.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects from concept through construction.
• Manage project delivery, quality, programme and commercial performance.
• Act as the primary client contact throughout project lifecycles.
• Produce and review calculations, reports, specifications and technical documentation.
• Oversee mechanical design production using BIM and CAD workflows.
• Undertake site inspections, commissioning reviews and technical assessments.
• Support sustainability strategies and renewable energy feasibility studies.

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Mechanical Associate Director to join a modern, independent Building Services consultancy with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality MEP solutions across London.

This is an ideal role for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys technical leadership but also wants genuine influence over the future direction of a growing business. Role

As Mechanical Associate Director, you will lead the delivery of mechanical building services projects from feasibility through to completion across RIBA Stages 1-6. Working closely with senior management, architects, project managers and multidisciplinary design teams, you will be responsible for both technical delivery and commercial performance while mentoring and developing junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Supporting recruitment and continued growth of the engineering team.

Requirements:

You’ll be an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer with strong technical capability and leadership experience.

• c10+ years’ experience in Mechanical Building Services Design.
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• Membership of CIBSE, IMechE or working towards Chartered status.
• Experience delivering commercial refurbishment, fit-out and mixed-use developments.
• Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations and CDM.
• Experience with software such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES VE, Hevacomp, H2X or similar.
• Excellent report writing and client communication skills.
• Commercial awareness with an interest in developing client relationships.
• A proactive leadership style with a passion for mentoring others.
