Job summary

National Museums in Manchester seeks an Associate Curator (Decant) to join the Curatorial team. You will assess and enhance documentation for safe transfer of stored collections and work with specialists to prepare cases for Board of Survey.

You will be part of a project team handling hazard surveys, documentation improvements and potential removals from the permanent collection, with emphasis on accuracy and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with museum collections, documentation, cataloguing and collections management.
• Ability to conduct careful research across diverse sources to fill data gaps.
• Strong attention to detail and patience for meticulous work.
• Confident communicator capable of presenting cases to a Board of Survey.

Responsibilities

• Assess current documentation and enhance database records for safe decanting.
• Support the transport of decanted collections with rigorous documentation.
• Collaborate with curators, registrars, conservators and project team.
• Prepare and present cases to the Board of Survey for decisions on collection removal.
