WSP has an excellent new role for an Associate/Associate/Technical Director Sustainability Consultant to support sustainable building solutions on high-profile projects and major frameworks within a growing national team.

The Building Performance team primarily supports the UK in energy, carbon, and holistic sustainability advice within the built environment. The team plays a central role in multidisciplinary projects, coordinating all WSP disciplines toward sustainable designs. They also provide sustainability and energy master planning for urban and semi-rural developments, and support services like BREEAM, LEED, WELL, and NABERS.

Reporting to a Regional Lead, you will help develop and expand the team's offerings across sectors. The team is part of the national Building Performance Network (BPN). The role involves client-facing responsibilities, helping clients define and meet strategic goals related to net zero operational energy, embodied carbon, and broader sustainability targets.

Your Role...

We seek a Sustainability Specialist to lead sustainable building solutions, supporting the UK Properties & Buildings business with sustainability leadership on major projects. Your responsibilities include:

• Developing sustainability strategies for portfolios and frameworks.
• Enhancing WSP's industry profile, securing new work, and improving technical knowledge in sustainable design.
• Engaging in business development, including client meetings and industry events, leveraging existing relationships.
• Understanding client briefs and translating aspirations into practical delivery models.
• Coordinating sustainability delivery across design teams and stakeholders.
• Identifying cross-selling opportunities and collaborating across WSP teams.
• Supporting team growth through recruitment and development.
• Preparing high-quality reports that communicate issues and conclusions clearly.
• Applying UK sustainability legislation at all project levels.

What We Expect from You...

• Experience in Net Zero, Low Carbon Design, and materials.
• Proven track record as a sustainability consultant, leading assessments.
• Experience driving design teams toward sustainability, including multiple certification assessments.
• Knowledge of construction processes and sustainable design implications.
• Leadership in sustainability initiatives and behavioral change.
• Innovation, best practices, and effective communication skills.
• Experience supporting bids and business development.
• Understanding of BREEAM and other assessment methodologies.
• Knowledge of thermal modelling and energy strategies.
• Understanding UK planning policies related to sustainability and Net Zero.
• Ability to communicate complex and non-technical information effectively.
• Strong presentation and time management skills.
• Ability to train and coordinate junior staff.
• Eligibility for UK Security Check (SC).

Qualifications...

• Degree in engineering, environmental, architectural, or sustainability-related fields.
• Membership of a professional institution, with Chartered status preferred.
