Job summary

Abselion in Cambridge, UK, is seeking an Associate Application Scientist. This entry-level role blends hands-on lab work with direct customer interaction, split between developing new Amperia applications at the bench and supporting customers through technical conversations.

You will work with Field Application Scientists and the Sales & Marketing team, travel up to 25% to UK and international events, and join a fast-growing biotech on-site in Cambridge with a discretionary bonus and share

Qualifications

About Abselion

Abselion is a life science tools company headquartered in Cambridge, UK, working on the next generation of analytical technologies. We have developed a benchtop analytical instrument, called Amperia, which uses proprietary Redox Electrochemical Detection (RED) technology to quantify proteins and viral vectors directly from crude samples in minutes, without purification, and without specialist training.

We work with teams across protein expression, process development and in academia, biotech and pharma across the globe who are tired of waiting days for analytical results that should take minutes.

The role

As an Associate Application Scientist, you'll combine hands‑on scientific lab work with direct customer interaction. This is an ideal hybrid entry level role for a scientist with a commercial mindset. Your time will be split between contributing to the development of new applications of Amperia at the bench and supporting customers through technical conversations.

You will work closely with Field Application Scientists and the wider Sales & Marketing team, helping qualify and nurture opportunities, while building the bench experience that grounds every customer conversation in real product knowledge. You will attend conferences and field events alongside a senior team member, learning first‑hand how we engage customers in person. You will be based onsite at our Cambridge office, with occasional international travel.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of new applications of Amperia, and build hands‑on product and assay knowledge in the process.
• Respond to and nurture inbound customer enquiries, understanding their workflows and technical challenges.
• Support customer engagement campaigns, helping translate scientific interest into qualified conversations.
• Attend conferences and field events alongside a senior team member, supporting logistics and building first‑hand customer‑facing experience.
• Feed structured customer feedback back to the Science, Product and Sales teams.

Must haves

• Must be able to travel to the UK and other European countries, as well as the US, and Canada.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for up to 25% of your workdays.
• Valid driver's licence and access to a car, and willingness to use it for UK field events. The travel is fully reimbursed.
• The role involves transporting and setting up the instrument at field events and conferences. Candidates should be comfortable handling equipment weighing up to 20 kg.

Experience & skills

Essential

• Minimum MSc in biochemistry or related field.
• Lab experience and handling of protein samples.
• Experience with one or more of the following: ELISA, SPR, BLI, or other binding assays.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office.
• Basic knowledge of Matlab or Python is a plus.
