Assistant Underwriter, Energy Transition

AXA XL is seeking an Assistant Underwriter with experience in Energy/Renewables to support our underwriting team in managing Renewable risks within our energy transition portfolio.

The energy transition is vital to a sustainable global economy. Supporting this transition aligns with AXA XL’s climate and sustainability strategies.

Our energy transition efforts focus on products and services, distribution, and capability building. This role requires an agile mindset to balance portfolio management with fundamental underwriting principles, with a strong background in engineering, renewables, or similar complex lines of business.

AXA XL has underwritten renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric operations, and is expanding coverage to technologies like hydrogen, bioenergy, and carbon capture.

This book is key to AXA XL’s net-zero goals and energy transition journey. Visibility, approachability, and effective communication are essential.

This role is regulated under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.

Responsibilities include:

1. Supporting underwriters with risk recording and broker relationships.
2. Ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
3. Maintaining documentation and files.
4. Collaborating with credit control and brokers on premium monitoring and cancellations.
5. Responding to regulatory reports and developing analytical reports.
6. Monitoring renewals and resolving data queries.
7. Working with shared services for timely support.
8. Potentially assisting with actuarial account modeling.
9. Performing ad-hoc duties as needed.

Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, Energy Transition, the ideal candidate will have:

• Proven experience supporting energy/renewables underwriting teams.
• Understanding of the energy transition and its economic/insurance impacts.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and insurance data systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Team-oriented attitude.
