Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter in our UK Regions Property team within our UK Commercial Lines business.

Our Corporate Property team manages large commercial risks across the UK and international markets. We handle challenging and complex risks, often with multinational requirements. Sompo can participate as both a lead or follow market, working with brokers to secure long-term partnerships. This role is within our UK Regions segment.

Location: This position is based in our Birmingham office. We promote a collaborative work environment where employees can thrive and develop long-lasting careers.

What you’ll be doing:

1. Support underwriters from risk submission to binding, covering all aspects of the underwriting process.
2. Respond promptly and professionally to mid-term questions from brokers and internal stakeholders, delivering first-class service within authority limits.
3. Engage with brokers and external parties, including third-party providers, fostering good working relationships.
4. Contribute to underwriting service projects aimed at improving existing services.
5. Maintain accurate risk, exposure, and premium data in the company’s policy systems.
6. Assist with pricing models and underwriting/ modelling tasks.
7. Provide ad-hoc support to underwriting teams as needed.
8. Prepare financial and other analyses to support the underwriting team.

What You’ll Bring:

1. At least 1 year of Property Insurance experience.
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
4. Highly analytical with good logic and critical thinking skills.
5. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
6. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
7. Flexible, adaptable to changing business needs.
8. Strong numeracy and communication skills, both verbal and written.
9. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
10. Self-driven, confident, and target-oriented.
