Overall Purpose of the Job

The University of Manchester (www.manchester.ac.uk) is one of the largest single-site universities in the UK, with a large student community. The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) plays an essential role in this success. FSE includes two schools: the School of Engineering and the School of Natural Sciences, each led by a Head of School and Operations. For more information, visit https://www.se.manchester.ac.uk/.

We seek an enthusiastic assistant technician to join our technical operations team, providing leading technical support for FSE and the wider university. The role involves supporting teaching, research, and professional services through excellent customer service and a passion for science and engineering. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to sector-leading technical services in Manchester.

  • Be a point of contact for building and building services issues.
  • Resolve problems promptly by collaborating with team members and Estates and H&S teams.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organization, and safety in buildings.
  • Perform and record routine and statutory inspections and preventative maintenance, including repairs reporting, asset register updates, security and access requests, PAT testing, safety system inspections, waste disposal, equipment moves, legionella prevention, ladder and lifting aid inspections, fire safety checks, and system monitoring.

Please note, under current immigration rules, this role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. Candidates must demonstrate their right to work in the UK.
