Job title: Assistant Technical Manager
Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £40k-£42k plus £1,500 if hold HV/LV Ap tickets
General Overview
To assist the Technical Manager in delivering an efficient and effective operation and maintenance of hospital HV & LV electrical systems, and the promotion of good engineering practices whilst ensuring compliance with statutory and healthcare engineering standards.
Main Responsibilities/Duties:
- Support the estates management team in providing a 24hr maintenance service within a healthcare site in Portsmouth for the SPV.
- Ensure safe systems of work are used, in line with HTM’s, recognised codes of practice, ISO 9001, and all statutory legislation such as the Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations, Electricity at Work Act, etc.
- Carry out duties of Authorised Person for systems assigned (following training, assessment, and formal appointment).
- Oversee the day-to-day management of engineering systems, ensuring all maintenance tasks are completed on time and to a high standard.
- Provide technical support in resolving complex estate infrastructure issues.
- Monitor equipment maintenance records and service reports to ensure follow-up actions are completed promptly and recorded in the CAFM system.
- Manage and oversee external sub-contractors and other professionals.
- Ensure contractor and in-house engineering team are competency checked and appointed as Competent Persons as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders such as Technical Managers, Engineering Manager, Senior Operations Manager, Head of Estates, and site delivery teams.
- Assist in the development and delivery of the site life-cycle plan, providing technical and managerial support.
- Work in areas occupied by patients and staff, respecting health, safety, dignity, confidentiality, and data protection laws.
- Perform other relevant tasks as determined by the Head of Estates.
- Maintain personal and professional development to meet changing job demands and participate in training.
- Adhere to company policies and promote a customer service culture.
Qualifications:
Essential: ONC/HND in an engineering discipline (or equivalent)
Experience:
- Management of Hard FM Services
- Customer care and flexible working approach
- Strong Electrical background
- Contractor management skills
- 18th Edition BS7671
- Experience as Authorised Person for low and high voltage systems (11kV)
Desirable: Knowledge of HTM, HBN, relevant standards, experience in healthcare environments, PFI contracts, and City & Guilds 2391 Inspect & Test.
