Job summary

Cardiff Council’s Legal Service is seeking an Assistant Housing Solicitor to join the Litigation Team in Cardiff. The role focuses on housing possession work, ASB injunctions, trespass, disrepair and providing housing advice, with opportunities to work across other litigation areas.

Training is available, and a flexible, hybrid working model is in place. The successful candidate will be admitted as a solicitor or called to the Bar, able to work in a team, and prepared to travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Experience in housing possession work, ASB injunctions, trespass, disrepair claims and housing enquiries.
  • Willingness to train and develop within a Local Government litigation team.

Responsibilities

  • Handle housing possession work, ASB injunctions, trespass proceedings and defend disrepair claims.
  • Provide day to day housing advice to clients and assist with other litigation areas as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Litigation Team to deliver excellent service and balance workload.
  • Travel at short notice when required; contribute to flexible working arrangements.

We have specialist lawyers carrying out procurement, litigation, property, planning, governance, childcare and adult social services work, and aim to provide our clients with an excellent and comprehensive service.

The service now operates a hybrid working model which enables employees to work flexibly from home or from an office base, depending upon service requirements. We have a modern case management system, an online legal library, and a small business support team.

About the job

An opportunity for an Assistant Housing Solicitor has become available and we seek a candidate with relevant experience to join the Council’s the Litigation Team. This motivated and highly professional team is looking for an individual with experience and interest in the work of a Local Government litigation team.

The post will include dealing with housing possession work, ASB injunctions, trespass proceedings, defending disrepair claims, and day to day advice on client housing enquiries but will also include the ability to get involved with other areas of work relating to litigation, subject to the applicant’s experience, career interests, and workload capacity. Training can be provided.
