Job summary

Thorn Baker Construction seeks an Assistant Site Manager for a three-month contract on a new build housing development in Market Harborough. You will support the Site Manager to ensure safety, quality, and timely delivery.

You will assist with day-to-day site management, coordinate resources, maintain records, and liaise with subcontractors, clients and regulators as required. The role is outdoors, full-time with PPE and potential overtime.

Qualifications

• SMSTS certificate is required to operate on site safely.
• CSCS card is required for site access and compliance.
• First Aid certification is required for on-site medical emergencies.
• Full, clean driving licence is required for travel between sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Site Manager in day-to-day management, ensuring safety and policy compliance.
• Monitor and supervise site activities, labour, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain productivity and quality.
• Coordinate resources, materials and equipment to meet project milestones.
• Maintain accurate site records including daily reports and site diaries.
• Support implementation of safety procedures and promote safety culture on site.
• Collaborate with project teams, subcontractors and suppliers to resolve issues impacting progress.
• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure design specs and quality standards are met.
• Assist with subcontractor performance management and contract adherence.
• Contribute to risk assessments and method statements for safe, efficient work.

Assistant Site Manager

We are looking for an Assistant Site Manager for a three-month contract on a new build housing development in Market Harborough, East Midlands, Leicestershire. This is a full-time role within the construction industry, focusing on new build housing projects. The successful candidate will support site management activities to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.

Job Duties

• Assist the Site Manager in the day-to-day management of the construction site, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
• Monitor and supervise site activities, including labour, subcontractors, and suppliers, to maintain productivity and quality standards.
• Coordinate and schedule site resources, materials, and equipment to meet project milestones effectively.
• Maintain accurate site records, including daily reports, progress updates, and site diaries.
• Support the implementation of site safety procedures and promote a culture of safety awareness among all site personnel.
• Collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve any issues impacting site progress.
• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
• Assist with the management of subcontractor performance and adherence to contract requirements.
• Contribute to risk assessments and method statements to ensure safe and efficient working practises.
• Support the Site Manager in liaising with clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies as required.

Required Qualifications

• Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate.
• Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
• Valid First Aid certification.
• Full, clean driving licence.

Education

• Minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Mathematics, or equivalent qualification.
• Relevant construction management or related qualification preferred but not essential.

Experience

• Proven experience working on new build housing projects within a site management or assistant management capacity.
• Demonstrable understanding of site operations and construction methodologies.
• Experience in coordinating subcontractors and managing site resources effectively.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and its application on construction sites.
• Good organisational and time management skills to prioritise tasks efficiently.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with a range of stakeholders.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and method statements.
• Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using construction management software or digital reporting tools.
• Additional health and safety qualifications beyond the SMSTS.
• Knowledge of sustainable building practises and regulations.

Working Conditions

This role requires working predominantly outdoors on an active construction site, exposed to varying weather conditions.

Full-time hours are expected, typically Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime as project demands require.

Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times on site.

The role may involve manual handling tasks and walking across uneven terrain.
