Thorn Baker Construction is seeking an Assistant Site Manager for a new build housing project in Syston, Leicestershire. This on-site role offers a competitive £250 daily rate (CIS/Umbrella) with potential for permanent conversion.

You should have SMSTS, CSCS, First Aid at Work and a clean driving licence, plus proven housing construction experience. The role requires coordinating subcontractors, managing resources and maintaining strict health and safety standards on a busy site.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Site Manager in planning, organising and supervising all site activities to deliver safely, on time and within budget.
• Monitor progress and quality of work, ensuring drawings and specs are followed and regulatory requirements met.
• Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, maintaining clear communication and addressing issues promptly.
• Support site health and safety procedures and enforce site rules.
• Maintain site records including diaries, delivery notes and inspection reports.
• Assist in managing resources to optimise efficiency and reduce waste.
• Contribute to risk assessments and method statements to ensure compliance.
• Facilitate effective communication with clients, consultants and regulators.

A leading housing developer seeks an Assistant Site Manager to join a new build housing project in Syston, Leicestershire. This role offers a competitive daily rate with the potential to convert to a permanent position. The ideal candidate holds relevant qualifications and has experience in house building within a fast-paced construction environment.

Job Duties

• Assist the Site Manager in planning, organising, and supervising all site activities to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
• Monitor progress and quality of work, ensuring compliance with construction drawings, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, maintaining clear communication and resolving issues promptly.
• Support site health and safety procedures, ensuring all personnel adhere to safe working practises and site rules.
• Maintain accurate records of daily site activities, including site diaries, delivery notes, and inspection reports.
• Assist in managing site resources, including labour, materials, and plant, to optimise efficiency and reduce waste.
• Contribute to risk assessments and method statements, ensuring all activities comply with company and statutory standards.
• Facilitate effective communication between all parties involved in the project, including clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies.

Required Qualifications

• Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate
• Valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card
• Current First Aid at Work qualification
• Full, clean driving licence

Experience

• Proven experience in house building projects, ideally within residential construction
• Demonstrable track record of supporting site management teams on medium to large scale developments
• Experience working under contract conditions and adhering to programme deadlines

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong understanding of construction processes, health and safety legislation, and quality standards
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with multiple stakeholders
• Competent in site administration and record keeping
• Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
• Proactive problem-solving approach and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional health and safety qualifications, such as NEBOSH General Certificate
• Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) or similar digital construction tools
• Further vocational or academic qualifications in construction or project management

Working Conditions

• This role requires full-time hours on site with occasional extended hours to meet project demands.
• The working environment is outdoors on an active construction site, requiring appropriate personal protective equipment.
• The role involves physical activity, including site inspections and walking over uneven ground.
