Job summary

Fera Science Ltd. in York is seeking an Assistant Scientist to conduct molecular analysis of plant and fungal samples in the Mycology Team, part of the Plant, Animal and Environmental Health unit. You will ensure timely processing through careful workload planning and adherence to SOPs.

Qualifications

A scientific qualification, or equivalent experience.
Ability to follow SOPs and meet deadlines.
Experience with ISO 17025/ISO 9001 quality standards preferred.
Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Interest in plants and plant diseases is a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform molecular analysis using conventional PCR, real-time PCR and sequencing.
Maintain quality systems in the lab (ISO 17025 and ISO 9001).
Help colleagues prioritise samples and troubleshoot issues.
Carry out stock control of reagents and consumables.
Clean and maintain routinely used facilities and equipment.
Assist with literature reviews if required.
