Join the National Trust as an Assistant Ranger apprentice, where you'll help conserve the countryside and protect historic sites. This role offers training, outdoor work, and the chance to progress to a full ranger position. You'll gain valuable skills while supporting conservation efforts in beautiful locations.
Come and join us on a National Trust apprenticeship where we’ll support and develop you to play an integral part in our work to tackle climate change, protect historic sites, and help people and nature thrive. You don’t need experience for this role, just loads of enthusiasm and a desire to learn.
You’ll be working as a member of the rangering team to conserve the environment that makes the countryside both distinctive and special, helping to take care of our protected landscapes.
This role can lead to an assistant ranger or ranger position and potentially progress to a Level 4 Countryside Ranger apprenticeship after gaining additional experience.
You’ll work outdoors in all weather conditions as part of our ranger teams, supporting our strategy to restore a healthy, beautiful, and natural environment. Your role will focus on protecting and enhancing the health and wildlife richness of our countryside, preserving its benefits, and helping visitors connect with conservation efforts.
Your training will include mandatory week-long college blocks and online learning, with all expenses and travel paid. There may be opportunities to travel to other National Trust locations, including overnight stays, to broaden your experience.
Clumber Park features a rich mosaic of habitats within a Grade 1 registered Parkland, attracting over 750,000 visitors annually. We focus on restoring wood pastures and creating new habitats, such as planting over 13,000 hedgerow plants, creating heathlands, and supporting species reintroduction projects like the Silver Studded Blue Butterfly. Clumber Park’s diverse features—from its SSSI designation to archaeological sites—make it a special place for everyone.
You will work alongside your mentor on specific tasks related to your apprenticeship, developing relevant skills and knowledge. You’ll attend regular review meetings with your training provider and be responsible for your own progress. Completion of mandatory e-learning, courses, and training is required.
In addition to the qualities listed in the role profile, we’d love to hear from you if you meet the following criteria by the start date:
If you are aged 18 or under and have not achieved English and maths at grade C/4, you'll be enrolled in functional skills Level 2 as part of your apprenticeship. This is optional if you are 19 or over, but we will support you to complete it.
If you have relevant qualifications or substantial work experience, this may affect your eligibility for government funding, which will be verified if your application progresses.
