VolkerRail Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working through joint ventures and alliance schemes. Collaborative working agreements are a proven strategy for delivering large, complex railway projects, and through its strong relationships with other major contractors, VolkerRail Major Projects has helped to deliver several of the biggest rail projects over the last decade.

The SID is a fully integrated team that will bring together the strengths, capabilities, and knowledge of the partners and Network Rail. It will own the renewals work bank, manage it at portfolio level and drive a transition to a production management ethos. The SID is commercially aligned and jointly incentivised creating a ‘share in success’ environment. Business partners within the alliance will generate profit through performance against the Final Determination. The four partners, VolkerFitzpatrick, Octavius, Atkins, and VolkerRail are aligned to the core asset disciplines with the fifth partner, Network Rail Minor Works, being multi- disciplinary for low complexity, low value works.

We have a great opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the Major Projects business working on the Southern Integrated Delivery project based in the Southeast of England.

You will be responsible for:

• Responsible for supporting the production and the submission of periodic Applications for Payment/ Invoices inclusive of entering these on to the company costing and reporting system and relevant project document management system.
• Assisting with raising, monitoring and uplifting Subcontract orders, and any other orders as required to support the Operations team on the company costing and reporting system.
• Support the Commercial function with Subcontract Administration including but not limited to;
  • Initial drafting of Subcontract documentation
  • Review and Processing of Subcontract payments
  • Drafting and issuing of Payment/Pay Less Notices as required by legislation.
  • Updating of Cashflow in line with Certificates issued to Subcontractors
  • Administration of Subcontract Change Accounts and drafting of Instructions or Notices
  • Drafting and issuing of Subcontract Final Accounts
• Support the Commercial function with administering Contract Correspondence in the relevant Project Document Management System.
• Support to the Project Team members to produce and interrogate costs, budgets, cost to complete and outturn forecasts in line with Integrated Management System.
• Administration of trackers
• Support the Commercial function with the provision of substantiation for projects including but not limited to;
  • Applications for Payment
  • Change Control
  • internal and external audit.
• Support the Project Team with the collection of accurate records as required by the Contract and ensure these are stored in line with the Integrated Management System
• Escalate any significant issues that you become aware of to your Line Manager or relevant members of the Management Team
• Support the Commercial function with the preparation and entry of internal CVRs to the Company costing and reporting system.
• Any other duties as required by the Commercial Team.

About you

• Working towards a HNC or equivalent qualifications or experience in Quantity Surveying
• Commercial Awareness preferably within the Infrastructure/Construction or a related industry.
• Computer literate including MS Office.
• Knowledge and awareness of COINS or other Cost Management systems.
• The individual will be expected to attend sites and/or offices in line with the post’s requirements, therefore a full UK Driving licence will be required.
• Good communicator
• Common sense approach to problem solving
• Willingness to learn
