We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team within Vistry South East, at our Caterham office. As our Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will report to the Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor and will assist in the commercial delivery of residential development schemes. You will support the Surveying department with cost management for development and contracting projects from procurement to the completion of sub-contract final accounts. This is a key role, and the successful candidate will have experience in a similar role for a main contractor or developer within the region.

What we expect from you…

- HNC / Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management or equivalent
- Good understanding of building regulations and legal obligations
- Knowledge of construction methods and materials
- Strong mathematical and IT skills, especially in Microsoft Excel
- Understanding of standard measurement rules
- Ability to assess and analyze information effectively
- Good business sense and understanding of budget management
- Negotiating and networking skills
- Excellent communication skills

- HND or Degree in Construction
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building, or working towards it, or
- Working towards being a chartered member of the Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS)
Role responsibilities…
- Attend site pre-start meetings to understand construction issues with the Senior / Quantity Surveyor.
- Assist in preparing tender packages for all sub-contract trades.
- Receive tenders and help analyze them for each trade.
- Assist with issuing sub-contract orders in accordance with group policies and best practices, attending pre-order meetings.
- Liaise with the Build Department on sub-contractor performance and compliance.
- Help produce sub-contract orders aligned with site build requirements and group policies.
- Provide forecast and site budget information to the Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor.
- Assist in controlling and reporting post-contract cost movements.
- Ensure invoices and payment applications comply with contract terms.
- Report any disputes or legal actions promptly.
- Assist in managing site project administration using BMS and related processes.
- Review on-site materials and valuations regularly.
- Settle variation invoices and applications for payment.
- Assist in certifying retention releases and final accounts.
- Maintain filing systems for project information.
- Continue personal development and attend training as planned.
- Participate in departmental meetings and handle queries from colleagues.
- Maintain open communication with regional teams.
- Adhere to health and safety policies, report incidents, and ensure a safe working environment.
