Job description

About The Role

We're looking for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team and play a key role in delivering one of the UK's most exciting energy infrastructure projects. As part of the consortium delivering the groundbreaking Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project, we're helping to construct a first-of-its-kind gas-fired power station with integrated carbon capture and storage technology. This landmark development will play a vital role in making Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster and supporting the nation's journey to Net Zero. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your commercial career on a nationally significant project, working alongside experienced industry professionals while contributing to a scheme that will leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Flexible Location Options: We offer the flexibility to be based from our offices in Leeds (Thorpe Park), Newcastle (Quorum Business Park), or the NZT Project Office. Hybrid working arrangements are available; however, as this is a project-focused role, regular site presence is essential.

What you'll be doing
  • Maintain awareness of Balfour Beatty governance requirements and support compliance with BMS and commercial procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation of cost reports, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Support interim valuations, payment applications, and cost value reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Assist in tracking project costs, variations, and change control.
  • Support the preparation and close-out of final accounts.
  • Support contract administration in accordance with the agreed form of contract (typically NEC4).
  • Help maintain accurate commercial records and cost data.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with contractual obligations and internal governance processes.
  • Support subcontractor procurement, including tender enquiries, evaluations, and contract administration.
  • Assist with subcontractor payments, variations, and performance monitoring.
  • Help maintain effective working relationships with the supply chain.
  • Identify potential commercial risks and opportunities and escalation as appropriate.
  • Support the maintenance of risk registers and change logs.
  • Contribute to regular commercial and financial reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, procurement, and commercial colleagues.
  • Support senior commercial staff with day-to-day commercial activities.
  • Actively work towards professional development and chartership.
Who we're looking for
  • An organised, innovative, and creative Assistant Quantity Surveyor with enthusiasm for gaining knowledge and experience of working on diverse Projects and Portfolio's.
  • Some experience within a construction or infrastructure environment.
  • Basic understanding of commercial and cost management principles
  • Awareness of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 desirable).
  • Strong numerical, organisational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstration of resilience and determination to succeed (achievement focus).
  • Proactively manage opportunities, risks, and threats.
