Job summary

Vento Group Ltd. is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in Nottingham to support the commercial management of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account.

You will assist with budgets, cost plans, and cost control, while helping with subcontractor procurement, valuations, and final accounts. The role offers exposure to full project lifecycles within a Midlands-based team.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Nottingham

Salary: £30,000-£38,000 + Benefits

Take the next step in your quantity surveying career with an established, privately owned contractor delivering bespoke care homes, residential and commercial developments across the Midlands.

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you'll work closely with experienced commercial professionals, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle from pre-construction through to final account.

This role offers the opportunity to develop genuine all-round commercial experience, take increasing ownership of work packages and progress towards a fully-fledged Quantity Surveyor position within a supportive and experienced team.

What you'll do

• Support the commercial management of construction projects, assisting with budgets, cost plans and cost control from pre-construction through to completion.
• Assist with subcontractor procurement, including tender enquiries, analysis, negotiation and appointment.
• Prepare and assess interim valuations, applications for payment and subcontractor accounts.
• Identify, record and value variations, ensuring accurate commercial records are maintained throughout the project.
• Contribute to monthly cost value reconciliations (CVRs), cost-to-complete forecasts and profitability reviews.
• Assist with contract administration, particularly under JCT forms of contract, and support the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
• Attend site and commercial meetings, working closely with project managers, subcontractors, consultants and the wider commercial team.

What you'll need

• Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or similar commercial role within construction.
• A construction-related qualification or currently working towards an HNC, degree or professional qualification.
• An understanding of subcontract procurement, valuations, variations and cost reporting.
• Good numerical and analytical skills, including confident use of Microsoft Excel.
• Strong communication and organisational skills with a proactive approach to learning.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to visit project sites as required.
