Job description

Job Title | Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Hours | 38hrs per week, 8.00am to 5pm Mon to Thurs, 8.00am to 3pm Friday

Salary | Competitive depending on experience

Responsible to | Lead Quantity Surveyor

Key Responsibilities
  1. The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will assist in the financial delivery of projects by controlling costs, progressing monthly valuations, and helping compile variations and change orders.
  2. Manage and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, construction professionals, suppliers, and site staff.
  3. Assist in compiling monthly job costing reviews and final accounts.
  4. Support the commercial activities of the business, providing advice to Project Managers, Lead QS, and Senior Management as required.
  5. Assist in preparing monthly valuations based on site measurements and work-in-progress reviews.
  6. Follow up on monthly valuations to ensure timely payments as per contract conditions.
  7. Complete and submit project documentation and correspondence within deadlines.
  8. Assist in processing subcontractor payments.
  9. Review contracts prior to signing.
  10. Engage subcontractors, assist with negotiations, and prepare subcontract documents.
  11. Perform other duties as required to fulfill the role.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  • Third-level qualification in Surveying or Cost Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • High IT literacy, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Detail-oriented and eager to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Good client engagement skills.
  • Valid UK Driving License.
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge of Industry Standard Forms of Contract.
  • Experience in construction or mechanical environments (placement or degree training).
  • Experience in financial planning and control of mechanical or construction projects.
